In honor of Women’s History Month, PRSA Nashville is pleased to introduce a special Q&A with PRSA Nashville President Andrea Lindsley.
Andrea Lindsley, Partner
DVL Seigenthaler
COLLEGE: University of Alabama
PRSA BOARD POSITION: 2018 President
What was your first job, and any takeaways from that experience?
My first job out of college was a D.J. at a country music radio station. I had the worst shift available: midnight – 6 a.m. weekdays. Absolutely no one was listening and it motivated me to find a job I was passionate about.
How did you end up where you are today?
I worked in TV news for almost a decade, which brought me to Nashville to WKRN-TV. I loved working in news but when my boyfriend (now husband) transitioned from news to public relations, I saw first-hand what a great career it was. I copied him and now we are a PR family (20 years for him; 17 years for me; different agencies = happy marriage).
Tell us about one of the most memorable experiences of your career.
I’m a sports nut so being assigned to work two Super Bowls, one in news for Ch. 2 and one in PR for our client, Jack Daniel’s, was a dream come true.
Do you have any advice for young professionals?
I tell young pros to “sweat the small stuff.” Think big, but it’s your attention to detail, day in and day out, that will set you apart.
What do you think are the biggest challenges and opportunities for Nashville-area PR professionals?
I think the biggest challenge and opportunity is just keeping up with the pace. Growth, expansions, mergers, relocations, new businesses, new executives. Our city is the PR jackpot!
What is something you hope to accomplish with PRSA Nashville in 2018?
I’m inspired and motivated by the amazing PR professionals we have in Music City. My goal is to provide more opportunities for connections, education and professional development so our PR forces can keep growing to match the growth of the city we love.
